Bogota Half Marathon 2026: complete guide to running in the capital at 2,600 metres

The Bogotá Half Marathon (mmB) has established itself as the most important running event in Colombia’s capital. Every year, it attracts tens of thousands of runners from around the world who take on a demanding course at 2,600 metres above sea level. In this guide, you’ll find everything you need to know about the 2026 edition, along with key tips for training and performing at altitude.

Event details for the 2026 Bogotá Half Marathon

The 2026 mmB will take place on Sunday, July 26, 2026. As in previous editions, it offers two distances: 10 km and 21 km. Both races start and finish in the iconic Simón Bolívar Park. The event, endorsed by World Athletics and the Colombian Athletics Federation, is expected to host more than 40,000 runners from over 60 countries. This will mark the 25th edition of the race—a milestone that reflects the growth and prestige of the country’s largest half marathon.

Registration and fees

Registration is already open. Until April 30, 2026, the individual entry fee is 280,000 Colombian pesos (approximately USD 70). From May 1, the price increases to 310,000 pesos. Groups of more than 20 runners are eligible for discounts. The race kit includes an official Adidas shirt, a bib with timing chip, a backpack, and sponsor giveaways. Participants also gain access to guided training sessions and pre-race activities.

You can register and check updated prices on the official website: mediamaratonbogota.com, or read more details in this Caracol Radio report (in Spanish).

Social cause and UNICEF partnership

The 2026 edition is not just a sporting challenge—it’s also a race with a purpose. The mmB has partnered with UNICEF under the slogan “The goal is well-being: run for healthy environments for children in Colombia.” This initiative aims to promote healthy lifestyles and improve the environments where children and teenagers grow and learn.

Participants can make a donation during registration to support programs focused on nutrition, hygiene and physical activity. This means every kilometre run contributes directly to children’s well-being. Learn more in the official section: mmB 2026 social cause.

Preparing to run at altitude

Running at 2,600 metres means adapting to reduced oxygen availability. Bogotá has roughly 25–26% less oxygen than cities at sea level, which can initially impact performance due to hypoxia. However, with proper adaptation, altitude training can also bring physiological benefits such as increased red blood cell production and improved aerobic efficiency.

  • Arrive in Bogotá one to two weeks in advance to acclimatise.
  • Gradually increase training load and avoid intense workouts during the first days.
  • Stay well hydrated and monitor iron levels.
  • If possible, follow a “live high, train low” approach.
  • Listen to your body: heart rate rises faster at altitude, so focus on perceived effort rather than pace.

How to adjust your pace at altitude

Altitude has a direct impact on race performance. As a general guideline:

  • Half marathon: add 5–6% to your sea-level time.
  • 10 km: add 4–5%.
  • No acclimatisation: impact can reach up to 8%.
  • With adaptation (1–2 weeks): reduce that impact significantly.
  • Local runners: typically require only a 2–3% adjustment.

Adjusting your pacing strategy is essential to avoid going out too fast and struggling in the second half of the race.

Train with SnapRace

Proper planning makes all the difference. The SnapRace app allows you to create personalised training plans, track your runs and analyse your progress with detailed metrics. You can also discover routes, compete with other runners and stay motivated throughout your preparation.
