On Sunday, May 24, more than <strong>15,000 runners<\/strong> took part in the 12th edition of the event, confirming the race\u2019s strong place within the city\u2019s popular running calendar: a fast, massive and highly recognizable race stretching from the upper part of Barcelona all the way to the seafront.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The morning featured two distances, <strong>5K and 10K<\/strong>, with staggered starts designed to improve flow and organization. The shorter race began at <strong>8:30 a.m.<\/strong> near <strong>Passeig de Sant Joan and Carrer Val\u00e8ncia<\/strong>, while the 10K started at <strong>8:45 a.m.<\/strong> from the area around the <strong>Palau Reial de Pedralbes<\/strong>. Both races shared the same core concept: using Diagonal as the backbone of the course before finishing beside the Mediterranean at <strong>Passeig Garcia Faria<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Diagonal taken over by runners<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From early in the morning, it was obvious that the Cursa Diagonal was far more than just another city race. But the race also has its traps. Although the profile encourages aggressive pacing, the event is not won simply by letting gravity do the work downhill. The second half demands rhythm control, smart pacing and enough energy left to handle the subtle changes in terrain before the finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Conditions were generally good for racing during the early hours. As the morning progressed, rising temperatures and more exposed sections near the coast reminded runners that late May in Barcelona already requires careful hydration and effort management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Marc Guardia breaks 30 minutes to win the 10K<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the main event, the <strong>men\u2019s 10K<\/strong>, victory went to <strong>Marc Guardia Colomer<\/strong>, who delivered an excellent performance to win in <strong>29:45<\/strong>. Only four seconds separated the top two runners, highlighting the intensity of a race decided at a very high pace from start to finish. Third place went to <strong>German Anashkin Kachalin<\/strong> in <strong>15:29<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the women\u2019s 5K, <strong>Anastasiia Temnova<\/strong> claimed victory with a time of <strong>19:04<\/strong>. She was followed by <strong>Cristina Vilumbrales Garc\u00eda<\/strong> in second with <strong>19:22<\/strong> and <strong>Carla Iglesias Bermejo<\/strong> in third with <strong>19:39<\/strong>. Once again, the shorter race proved that it is far more than a beginner-friendly option: it also provides a fast and highly competitive environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A shared finish line by the sea<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the strongest visual images of this edition came at the finish line. For the first time, both distances shared the same finish area on Barcelona\u2019s seafront in <strong>Poblenou<\/strong>, creating a more concentrated and energetic atmosphere at the end of the race. Winners, recreational runners, volunteers, spectators and families all came together in the same open coastal space beside the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The seaside finish works particularly well for a race like this. After descending through Barcelona along one of its most iconic avenues, runners arrive at the coast with the feeling of having crossed the city from top to bottom.
