The Albacete Popular Running Circuit 2026<\/strong> is not just one of Spain\u2019s longest-running calendars: this year it celebrates its 25th anniversary<\/strong>, a quarter of a century in which it has built a model of sport, tourism and community that goes beyond the finish line. With 45 races spread across the province, more than 50 parallel activities and a brand-new commemorative logo, the circuit greets 2026 under the motto \u201cA year to run, twelve months to feel.\u201d This guide brings together the circuit\u2019s history, participation data, highlights of the special edition and practical tips so you can enjoy each race to the full.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A quarter of a century of history and growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Born in 2001 under the auspices of the Albacete provincial council, the Popular Running Circuit was a pioneer in bringing popular races together in a single calendar. What started as a dozen local races has evolved into 45 annual races<\/strong> that visit towns across all districts. Over its twenty-five editions more than 10,000 km<\/strong> have been run and more than 500,000 participants<\/strong> have crossed the finish line \u2014 more people than live in the province. Such continuity would not be possible without the cooperation of local councils, clubs, sponsors and, of course, the enthusiasm of thousands of runners who renew their bibs year after year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent years the circuit has broken enrollment records. In 2025 it registered 3,288 entries<\/strong>, a figure that has already been exceeded in 2026 with more than 3,500 registered runners<\/strong>. Total participation last year exceeded 35,000 people<\/strong> \u2014 20% more than in 2024 \u2014 and the growth of women\u2019s participation is especially noteworthy: women now account for more than 25% of entries, whereas in 2006 they represented barely 5%. The boom can be explained by the inclusion of child-care areas and family activities, by the friendly atmosphere and by initiatives such as pacers adapted to different paces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What makes the 25th anniversary special?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To celebrate its 25 years of history<\/strong>, the organisers have prepared an extraordinary programme to complement the 45 races on the calendar. Alongside the launch of a commemorative logo<\/strong> in golden and maroon tones \u2014 colours that evoke sporting success and the provincial institution \u2014 more than 50 parallel activities<\/strong> have been scheduled throughout the year. Each month will have a different theme combining sport, health, training, tourism, sustainability, solidarity, equality and inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This cross-cutting approach aims to make the circuit more than a succession of races: it seeks to project the image of a dynamic, committed province that looks to the future. As the provincial president summed up during the presentation, \u201cthis anniversary will be a party, a tribute and a recognition of all those who have taken part over a quarter of a century.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
